Newbie here!

Hello! I barely use this livejournal but I figure I might as well post something. I joined this community because my boyfriend and I would like to move to the keys in the fall. We visited Key West recently and fell in love with the atmosphere and weather!! I'm currently teaching so I hope to find a teaching job there.

How are the hurricanes during the season? I heard it hasn't been bad in a while. How do the locals think/feel about them?

Also, can anyone give advice to first time movers to the area? Maybe areas to look into to live? Areas to stay away from?

Any help/advice would be appreciated! :)

The best thing you can do is talk with a Realtor about the area and they will help guide you into something good.

As for the hurricanes, I was there for Georges' direct hit. Not so bad. If you're a tourist, military or in a mobile home, you'll always be evacuated, anyone in houses, it's your choice. Most long time residents are all 'hurricane? eh, board the windows and grab the radio honey, we're in for some wind'

Teaching is hard to get into down there considering it's a limited amount of space you can really put schools into, there are some private sectors though that are good.
