hi,
we're visiting Key largo this feb and want to know what others think about hotels there. we are not resort types so a low key local place is fine as long as it's clean and on/near the beach. I've googled a whole list of places so I know what's there, just wanted some input from others who have been/live there.
any other advice is truly appreciated. we aren't the tourist types, just want to hang, maybe find good local music, etc. basically relax and enjoy our time down south.
thanks!!

moving?

My husband has been offered a job in Key West and I'm trying to decide if moving is something I want to do.

I'm originally from San Francisco and we moved to Minneapolis a couple years ago, where his family lives.

Anyone want to convince me to move? Heh.

I would need to find a job. I have experience in general office and the mortgage industry. I am an artist as well with a BFA in Spatial Art, so working in a gallery could be cool.

Newbie here!

Hello! I barely use this livejournal but I figure I might as well post something. I joined this community because my boyfriend and I would like to move to the keys in the fall. We visited Key West recently and fell in love with the atmosphere and weather!! I'm currently teaching so I hope to find a teaching job there.

How are the hurricanes during the season? I heard it hasn't been bad in a while. How do the locals think/feel about them?

Also, can anyone give advice to first time movers to the area? Maybe areas to look into to live? Areas to stay away from?

Any help/advice would be appreciated! :)

A true Key West treat!

so i went home for a few days around New Year's hoping and craving to find one Spanish Lime tree that still had any fruit. no luck. between Spanish Limes and these, which i never knew the name of until now, i would always find and pick these around town. i wish i could show the photo but my photobucket account is over its limit.

anyone else eat these......well...not eat them. you'd open the pods and suck on the red seeds until the red coating was gone, and then spit out the remaining seed.

Jessie? anyone else?

We're here!

Hi, Folks! I just wanted to thank you for all of your advice. We're here in the Keys and loving it. We've been exploring the area and are having a wonderful time. It's all so different from home- just beautiful. Last night Howard Livingston and the Mile Marker 24 Band played at our campground. You know, I never really listened to that kind of music before,I like things a little heavier, but those guys were a lot of fun. My mom danced her butt off all night, too bad they didn't have their margarita maker with them. We went the other day to Fishbusterz Seafood Market, bought some great food and they were about half the price of most of the other places we checked (thank God for helpful local folks letting us know about them ;D). Tonight is the Superbowl so we'll be staying in to watch it and eat more seafood. Going to Mallory Square to visit all of the tourist must-sees this week...I don't want to leave! Any advice about a good charter fishing boat? Someone said don't bother going unless you get a seat in the back left corner of the boat, not exactly sure why.

Hi, my name is Marlea, I'm from PA and I'll be RVing with my family in the keys for,at least, the first half of February. Just wondering about places to check out while we're there. We'll (there are 7 of us from age 13 to 65) be staying off mile marker 20. Would love to check out live music, fairly inexpensive restaurants or just about anything you deem worthy ;) I haven't been any further South than North Carolina so this will be totally new for me, any advice? Oh, and a question about bugs...I have 3 cats, my brother has a dog, should we worry about fleas or other bugs that bite?? Right now, here up North it's too cold for them but I'm wondering if I need to be prepared for them when we come down. Thanks for any help and advice. I'm sure I'll be posting again soon with more questions... :)

Hi there!

My name is Andrea, and my family is considering moving to Key West this February. My husband and I are both self-employed, and we have a 13yr old.
Anyone have any tips/ideas on where to rent? We'd like to be close to downtown, but everything I see on craigslist is very, very small.
Thanks!

Piercing shops?

Hey all, I'm working in Key West this winter, and want to get a nipple pierced while I'm down there. Recommendations? Definite don'ts? I've gotten tattoos before, but this is my first piercing other than the normal earring, so any advice would be awesome. I won't be driving while I'm down there, so would like it within walking/bus/biking distance, but will try to travel for somewhere that's worth it.

Thanks! This is my first time to Key West, and my second time in Florida (I'm originally from Baltimore, MD), and I'm super-excited about this gig!

Hello!

Former resident of Key West here! Well, my mother is still there so I still consider it home.

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone else is aware of the fiasco concerning the Hemingway Cats and the US Government wanting them either caged or removed? Feelings on this?

I for one am quite annoyed at the government poking their nose in on a matter like this.
